My failure as a blogger

My failure as a blogger

I spent over 18 months on building a blog which I recently decided to completely renew. In these months, I was able to generate around 0.50 USD and around a 1000 views.

Yet, this isn’t the issue. I built a site that I wasn’t proud of. Even my family doesn’t read my blog. That speaks volumes to the quality of my writing back then.

I wrote about subjects that I has no business writing about.

I wrote about my tourism in my Home country of Egypt. Don’t get me wrong, I love my country. However, this isn’t what I usually think about throughout the day.

If I truly wanted to benefit people through my blog, I would’ve picked topics that I have genuine passion for. These are topics which I became an expert in by virtue of interest, grit, and perseverance.

Passion over Money

I strongly believe that your passion should take priority over money. We all need money but what job doesn’t pay money?

If you optimize for money and chase it over everything else, you’ll spend your life doing things you don’t like in order to keep on living (which is doing things you don’t like doing).

This is so stupid. This has to stop, at least in my life.

I would rather make a 1000$ doing what I love doing than any other amount doing dreadful work.

Work over metrics

I made the mistake of waiting and constantly checking my analytics in hopes that my articles would magically go viral.

The results kept disappointing me. No wonder!

I was not focused on the work and I sure wasn’t developing my craft.

I realize now the grave error that I had committed. I was focused on what I was going to take and NOT what I was going to give.

This isn’t a mistake that is reserved only for bloggers. If you want to succeed effortlessly in this life, you’ve got to focus on giving.

It’s GIVING, GIVING, and some more GIVING…

Now, it’s different. I’m reading again and exploring new topics. This keeps my mind fresh and full of ideas.

I can’t serve my readers if I’m not well-educated.

A new phase

I’m really excited to start this phase. I have no plan except this:

Follow your passion and focus on the work!
